How NOT to Require Lower Back Pain Nerve Surgery
There is nothing easy, painless, or inexpensive about lower back pain nerve surgery. As a matter of fact, no doctor will recommend it unless other options have already been considered and found ineffective. Here’s why:
Surgery is invasive. Surgery is not always successful. Surgery, when botched up, can result in symptoms and pains that were never there to begin with. The patient will need considerable time to recover from the procedure. The patient can suffer loss of flexibility for good. So you see, there’s a whole world to lose and little to gain with lower back pain nerve surgery. But how do you reduce the risks of your own back needing surgery in the future? Here are some tips.
1. Start sleeping on your side. This will reduce curvature of your spine. Also, sleep only on firm surface.
2. Don’t slouch. Whether you’re sitting or standing, slouching won’t do your back any favors. When you stand, balance your weight on both feet. Keep in mind that backs support weight better when they’re not curved, or are less curved.
3. Don’t lift objects that are much too heavy for a person to carry. And, if you need to do any heavy lifting, lift using the knees, pull in stomach muscles, and position your head down, so that it’s in line with your back. Moreover, keep the object you’re trying to lift close to you — and whatever you do, do not twist while you lift.
4. Stop smoking. Why? Smoking reduces the blood flow to your lower spine, causing degeneration of your spinal discs.
5. Eat healthfully. You already know excess weight can cause many health problems, but do you know a bad back is one of them? Excess weight, especially around the waist, stresses the muscles in the lower back. So, eat healthfully and make sure you’re getting sufficient amounts of Vitamin D, phosphorus, and calcium.
Of course, there are many more things you can do to reduce the possibility that you may need lower back pain nerve surgery. Read up and do your research — your back will thank you for it.
