Thank you so much for all you do for those in need.
who knows…all I know is that doctor gets PAID.
@bethp99 Begin using ice for 15 minutes every hour as many times a day as you can, no heat. Once you feel a progress in the inflammation you can start to use Biofreeze ( get it at CVS or other pharmacy) Stay away from stretching, bending and twisting. Cortisone injection may also be able to free the nerve. Once the pain is alleviated that is when heat is useful to increase circulation. I am dealing with the same thing and this is the best advice I have been able to find. Hope this helps.
I have 3 disk hernias and bone degenerative disease since about 2002.
I have had Sciatica to the point of not being able to walk for two 3 month periods. My Doctor recomend I avoid this procedure at all costs. I was put on a daily exercise routine and have not had a back spasm since June 2008. I Take the odd pain killer. I live a slowed down life but certainly a full one. I recomend exhausting Physical therapy and exercise before thinking about this procedure. Constant exercise does work.
4-5 Months is the setimated total recovery time. I had this surgery twice. Once in 1999 when I was 18 then in 2001 when I was 20. The relief from the leg pain is instant! And I personally felt no surgical pain. It may have been however that I was so relieved to not have the leg pain the surgical pain just didn’t faze me. My advice to someone having this surgery, research your doctor, and listen to them. Back surgery is not something to take lightly!
i had it done improved my life tenfold
i also have L4 and L5-S1, its been 9 months for me, no significant improvement….. but this video kinda scares me….1 wrong move , i can say bye bye to my legs…. i duno what to do…
Hey this looks pretty cool, but also pretty dangerous. Makes you wanna think twice about studying for a doctor, 1 wrong move and the patient is crippled for the rest of his/her life. I was wondering, how much do that kind of operations cost anyway ? 10.000$-25.000$ ?
yea i had this procedure done to me and it solved my problem of the fire i had in my butt and down my leg i was only 22 when i ruptured my l5 s1 the steroid shots didn’t work, i know play basketball three nights a week and have very minimal discomfort

I was hurt about 2 months ago in a simle slip with no fall and since then I am unable to do almost anything. I can not stand up straight and the pain in my right hip and leg coupled with partial numbness down the back of my leg and the skin moddeling on my buttocks due to no circulation. I just had my MRI and it is a confirmed severe herniation at L5 with S1 nerve root being crushed. I am on anti inflammatory meds and narcotics and none of them work at all…I am praying that someting will soon!
I am having this buttocks and leg pain and it is painful! Had an MRI yesterday but i know already there is a herniation. Been dealing with it for 18 years but it would always go away quickly, until now! Hoping to finally get the surgery I need to deal with it.
@Tuzla85 Yeah… don’t even start with the leg pain - I feel as if I’ve been shot all over my right leg!!
This applies to me EXACTLY - I have 2 herniated discs at L4-L5 and L5-S1. For 6 months I’ve literally been an invalid, however pain medications only get the pain away - they don’t unherniate the discs…. eventually I’ll be off to the operating room.
I have spent 2 1/2months unable to stand up straight because of L5-S1 disc herniation. All this time I had incredible sciatic pain below the knee. I was prescribed an anti-inflamatory; diclofenac sodium. After a week of taking it I now stand up straight and the pain is almost all gone!!! I thought medication wasn t needed but if u suffer from a disc injury the inflamation, I now realize, is a huge enemy.
im 19 and im getting this surgery done in january. ive been in constant pain for almost a year and im so so so excited for the pain down my leg to finally be gone.
have you considered the ACCURASCOPE procedure see (northamericanspine. com)? I am thinking of undergoing this soon as they say I am a qualified candidate. CT showing multiple bulges and hypertrophy from T12 all the way to S1…no kidding…I have been in so much pain I haven’t worked in over 1 year even though I work in the medical field myself and I know just how much money I missed. Accurascope is less invasive as they don’t remove anything…going for info session next week @ col, oh.
Im glad u had your procedure done finally and sincerely hoping that youre recovering well since it was such a big decision to make. Im going for it in 2 weeks. Whew. Nobody understands the true severity of this pain until we undergo thru it. I hope mine will be as successful as yours. By the way, wer u on general anaesthesia? Did u have any activities or minor movements after or
Just on ypur belly while healing? Any back brace? Take care! U did it. Legpain gone! Yay!
I just had the surgery 3 days ago. the surgery was done at 11am, and I was home at 9pm. First day was painfull, but its getting much better. Most of the cases are same day surgery, unless you have complications. They told me I cant drive for 2 weeks, and most likely I wont work for 4 weeks. I tried everything possible just like you did, but nothing helped. Today I dont have any pain in my leg, only numb in my foot. But I take that any day. Mine was at the same level as yours. Good luck!!!
i went trough knee surgery 3 months ago,now i must go trough this procedure along with my right shoulder; i hope mi pain disappear right after
I have an L5 S1 7mm herniation. Therapy, chiropractor, firm mat, acupuncture, heat and ice wont help me. For an hour max, it relieves me but my gosh! The leg pain is unbelievable. Im contemplating on this surgery. I have no guts to do surgery. And i have no energy to fight this either. What should i expect going to this procedure? How long is the hospital stay and how long was recovery? Help please.
Im 37 yrs old and had this procedure in Feb of 08. Best decision I’ve ever made. I had all the miserable effects of an L5-S1 disc herniation/annular tear. Horrible to live with. advice, make sure to do extensive research on the surgeon. I had a great doc (top 5 in the US). Some aren’t so lucky and are worse after surgery.
i am 14 and i am having this same surgery in two days. I have a small herniation at L4-L5 then a larger herniation at L5-S1… i cant even explain how much pain i had… My doctor said to go ahead with this… I hope this works
you hurt bad enough,,youll take off work or quit….going on my third..each surg helped diff areas..i believe in them.
