Back Pain - Fixing Back Pain With Surgery
Are you considering fixing your back pain with surgery? A lot of people think that back surgery is the answer to their herniated disc or other back problem, but the fact is back surgery has many risks and should only be used as a last resort. Only a minority of back patients actually need surgery. Most back aliments can be cured with rest, exercise and other non-invasive treatments.
As mentioned there are many risks associated with back operations. One of them is that despite surgery many people are still experiencing pain. In fact this is so common there is even a medical term for it “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome”. Failed back surgery syndrome is a term that describes the discomfort patient feel after surgery.
The pain might be caused by a failed surgery or an operation that was not performed properly. But in my case the cause was swelling after the surgery. My operation was for a herniated disc. Immediately after surgery I was pain free. However two weeks after the procedure I started to experience more and more pain. It got so bad I had to go on Oxycontin. As most people know this is a very strong opiate drug with many undesirable side effect
It now been six weeks since my operation and I’m still on the drug and unable to return to work. I now regret that I didn’t explore other non-invasive treatments before going under the knife. Hopefully with physical therapy I will eventual be free of pain. I now advise others who are dealing with back problems to be conservative and carefully consider alternatives to surgery.
